Lake Wenachee Camping - Sept. 2013

We went camping with Grandma & Grandpa a few weekends ago. They recently bought a camper and we tricked them into going "woodsy" camping with us.  ;-)

Cousins Kenley and Claire were staying with Grandma & Grandpa for the week so they came camping with us. The kids LOVED camping together. They spent lots and lots of time riding bikes and playing in the dirt.

This was also the maiden voyage of our camper on John's new truck. The almost-stock Ford did a hundred times better than any other trucks John has had with all their modifications. The back sags a little but that's about it.

The first night we took a walk down to the river/lake.

The water was freezing, but James got soaked showing us how deep he could go in the river.

My parents' camper has an amazing bunk house in the front that works perfectly for 4 kiddos. I'm not sure who was more excited about the bunk house - the kids because they get their own bed, John and I because we didn't have the boys in the camper, or my parents because they got to have the grand kids stay with them!

Ready, Set......

Go!!!

Saturday, we spent the morning at the campsite watching kiddos play then headed to the swim area at Lake Wenachee. It was a beautiful afternoon. The water was chilly, but we all got used to it right away.

James and Kenley were so excited that they walked out to the buoys themselves.

Grandma and Grandpa were having dinner with some friends that evening, so they took off and we stayed a little while longer at the beach.

After the beach, we piled 5 kids in the little camper in the parking lot and one-by-one got them cleaned off and dressed. It took an embarrassingly long time, but they were great.

Then we headed safely back to camp.

The next day was fishing day.

{These were our awesome neighbors with their sweet Mazda tow rig and home-built trailer. The colored Christmas lights around the frame really completed the look. Love it.}

We packed up the campers and headed out to Fish Lake. Ever since John's "Mom-and-Tana" trip, the boys have wanted to go catch a fish with Dad.

James was hilarious (and completely irritating if he wasn't my kid) holding the ropes at the dock:  "I'VE GOT THIS, GUYS. I'VE GOT THIS. I'M A STRONG MAN AND I CAN HOLD THE ROPES SO TIGHT. NO, YOU STAY THERE. I'VE GOT THIS."

James' first catch: a Perch.

Nate's first catch: a Sculpin.

We tried to catch a fish for Kenley and Claire, but everyone was ready to go back and the girls didn't mind not catching anything.

As we headed back over Hwy 2, we watched this huge cloud of fog roll into the canyon. It was spectacular. It also reminded us that we were heading back to the rain!

Our last stop on the way home was to pick up Hugo. It was POURING rain and Hugo was soaking wet. He couldn't ride in the camper so he got stuck in the backseat. He was pretty happy to be riding with his people though.
