My "Creative Mothering Skills" came back to bite me last night!
To date, Nate hasn't really cared
what toy he's playing with as long as he has
a toy to play with. This is handy because James has so many "special" toys he's gotten as gifts recently. Any time Nate plays with one I've been teaching James to say "please" to ask for it then find a different toy for Nate to play with.
Well, last night, I was putting clothes away in their room and I overheard this scene:
Nate was playing with a "neutral toy" as I like to call it.
James said "please".
James took the toy from Nate.
Nate started wailing.
James walked over, picked up a
way less cool toy, and handed it to Nate.
James bent down to show Nate the toy and said "Oooooooh"! (You know that voice - the one that tries to make something way more exciting than it actually is.)
Nate still wanted the first toy.
I laughed. Hard.
I suppose the principle is correct - Execution may need some work!
